M.S. Hayworth Court Creates Safe, Affordable Apartments for Rocky Mount Residents with Disabilities

RALEIGH—Finding safe, affordable housing can be a challenge for many North Carolinians, but even more so for persons with disabilities. The grand opening of M.S. Hayworth Court in Rocky Mount will provide more affordable housing options for this vulnerable population and create opportunities for individuals to live in independent and integrated settings.  

M.S. Hayworth Court will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m., at 931 Tessie Street in Rocky Mount.

The new development includes 8 independent apartments, 4 of which are set aside for persons with income below 50% of the area median. The City of Rocky Mount Housing Authority and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services offers a variety of services for residents.

Funding for M.S. Hayworth Court includes financing from the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund, administered by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, and a sponsorship from the City of Rocky Mount Housing Authority.

“While many North Carolinians with disabilities and special housing needs struggle to find safe housing they can afford, M.S. Hayworth Court seeks to help alleviate that pressure in Rocky Mount,” said Scott Farmer, executive director of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. “We are proud to finance independent apartments such as these across the state that provide dependable housing for some of our state’s most vulnerable citizens and help them stay integrated in their communities.”
