Macon County Honored for Work with NC Housing Finance Agency

Macon County will be recognized for 25 years of partnership with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency at a plaque dedication ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Highlands. Over 25 years, this partnership has brought an investment of more than $1 million from the Agency’s housing rehabilitation programs through Macon County to help more than 400 local families stay in their homes.

The ceremony will take place at the home of Melissa Passmore, where Macon County used the Agency’s housing rehabilitation funds to replace and update an access ramp, allowing her to remain in her home and avoid costly institutionalization.

“We are proud to celebrate our successful and long-standing partnership with Macon County,” said A. Robert Kucab, executive director of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.

“Through partnerships like this across the state, we are able to target the Agency’s home rehabilitation programs to citizens in need, allowing them to safely stay in their homes as long as possible.”

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency provides funding for housing rehabilitation for North Carolinians with low and moderate incomes statewide, including seniors, persons with disabilities and veterans, through local governments or nonprofit agencies such as Mountain Housing Opportunities.

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, a self-supporting public agency, has financed 242,000 homes and apartments since its creation in 1973.
